NAID 2019 Conference: ERI’s John Shegerian Describes the State of Electronic Recycling and Data Destruction

April 19, 2019 By admin

John Shegerian, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of ERI, the nation’s leading fully integrated IT and electronics asset disposition provider and cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company, was a featured speaker last week at the NAID & PRISM International 2019 Conference and Exposition at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center in Denver.

As part of a featured two-presenter panel on the current state of electronic waste recycling titled “Trends in the Electronics Disposal Industry,” Shegerian was joined on stage by Jerry Powell, founder and executive editor of Resource Recycling, Inc., which publishes Resource Recycling, Plastics Recycling Update and E-Scrap News. The two experts, introduced to the crowd by NAID organizers as “two titans of the electronics recycling industry,” shared the latest intel on the industry from two different perspectives.

In his featured part of the presentation, Shegerian described and shared insights on what types of private and potentially dangerous content can be easily accessed on discarded – even on “wiped” hardware. He also explained key concerns relating to e-waste recycling and ITAD, such as new regulatory issues, the importance of establishing a circular economy, and the very real threat of hardware hacking.

“It is an honor and privilege to once again share our insights with NAID’s audience,” said Shegerian. “We’re particularly proud, as AAA-certified NAID organization ourselves, to be able to set an example of adhering to and even exceeding the strictest standards of effective and responsible data destruction, protecting the privacy of people and businesses – and to be able to share our experience and best practice protocols with our industry colleagues here today. Proper destruction of private digital data has become a crucially important issue and NAID certification is the best way to demonstrate that you are doing it responsibly.”

NAID and PRISM International annually present the Conference & Exposition, offering a comprehensive collection of industry education, networking opportunities and an exhibit hall boasting the newest technology.

All eight of ERI’s facilities have received AAA certification from NAID.

ERI is the largest fully integrated IT and electronics asset disposition provider and cybersecurity-focused hardware destruction company in the United States. ERI is certified at the highest level by all leading environmental and data security oversight organizations to de-manufacture, recycle, and refurbish every type of electronic device in an environmentally responsible manner. ERI has the capacity to process more than a billion pounds of electronic waste annually at its eight certified locations, serving every zip code in the United States. ERI’s mission is to protect organizations, people and the environment. For more information about e-waste recycling and ERI, call 1-800-ERI-DIRECT or visit https://eridirect.com.
