Three day NoSQL conference NoSQL Applications in Biotech, Defense and Image/Signal Processing has been held November 19 – 21, 2010 in Barcelona, Spain. The overall goal of the conference was to bring experts from different fields together, exchange NoSQL application ideas and results, and encourage discussion about how to implement non-relational database technologies in applications with extreme demands for scalability, performance and robustness. The conference featured invited talks from different key value store projects – genome databases, remote sensing databases, data mining in homeland security/defense applications, GIS.

There has been also a lot of interest in the application of NoSQL databases in traditional RDBMS domains such as CRM/ERP and financial data management. With the continued overflow of unstructured data, a NoSQL database is crucially required to effectively manage ever-increasing massive amounts of information. By 2018 the NoSQL market is expected to hit 3.4 billion, according to a recently released market study NoSQL Market Forecast 2013-2018.
