IOWN Global Forum to Showcase Latest Photonics Innovation in Taiwan Next Month

Industry stakeholders invited to attend international conference in Taipei to discuss transformative technologies

TAIPEI, Taiwan, September 19, 2024 – The Innovative Optical and Wireless Network Global Forum (the IOWN Global Forum) is heading to high-tech capital Taipei to host its second public event to share its advances in photonics-driven technologies and their real world applications. Taking place on Wednesday, October 9, the hybrid half-day FUTURES conference will shine a light on the work of the IOWN Global Forum to deliver the communications networks of the future.

Over 200 representatives from the Forum’s 150 member organizations, which include Accenture, Chunghwa Telecom, Ciena, Ericsson, Fujitsu, Google, Intel, KDDI, Microsoft, Nokia, NTT, Orange, Red Hat and Sony, will gather at the Sheraton Grand Taipei Hotel to discuss their work, currently focused on data-centric infrastructure, and future ambitions in the optical and wireless network technology space.

Event highlights: Attendees will have the opportunity to:

Learn about the IOWN Global Forum’s success stories and future vision from senior executives.
Hear the latest on early adoption use cases in financial services (MUFG), broadcasting (Sony) and more, with an in-depth panel discussion.
Check out exhibits that bring the work of the Forum’s members to life and show the technology in action.
Network with business professionals, engineers and academics and explore ways to collaborate.
Guest speakers: To include Mr. Chih-Ching Yang, The Director General, Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs in Taiwan.

Other speakers include Dr. Tau Leng, SVP, Technology of Supermicro, and Dr. Tzi-cker Chiueh, General Director of Delta Research Center and former General Director of the Information and Communications Labs at ITRI, who will discuss their work in advancing IOWN technologies.

Demos: There will also be on site a number of exhibits and prototypes from Forum members to showcase their work in action including:

Remote network management solution addressing operational issues for service providers from Chunghwa Telecom and Fujitsu.
Broadband SSD with optical interface for new-generation data center system design and applications from KIOXIA Corporation.
Energy efficient data-plane processing using hardware-acceleration technologies for a video inference system from NTT.
400G fiber testing for data-centric infrastructure and fiber optic sensing for remote testing and monitoring from VIAVI Solutions.

The IOWN Global Forum is working on next-generation photonics-based technologies that offer energy efficiency, ultra-wide bandwidth, large-scale simulations, and ultra-realistic user interface and user experience for public and professional services. The Forum is committed to tackling diverse social challenges and realizing a smarter and more connected world through this innovation by 2030. IOWN technology is set to lower power consumption by 100x, increase transmission capacity by 125x, and reduce end-to-end latency by 200x.
