The inaugural Distributed SQL Summit, September 20, 2019, co-located with Postgres Conference Silicon Valley in San Jose, California

July 10, 2019 By admin

The accelerating adoption of microservices-based applications running on multiple clouds has resulted in a surging demand for distributed SQL databases. For the first time, industry leaders will gather at the inaugural Distributed SQL Summit on September 20, 2019, to share best practices and technical knowledge on the cloud-native approach to distributing and storing data, globally and elastically, at scale. Organized by YugaByte, the Distributed SQL Summit will be co-located with Postgres Conference Silicon Valley in San Jose, California.

Industry Leaders to Gather at the First Distributed SQL Summit Presented by YugaByte and PostgresConf

This one-day event will feature speakers and panelists from some of the biggest names in cloud and database infrastructure, including Amazon, Microsoft, FoundationDB, Narvar, Cerner, Pivotal and Percona. Participants will share what it takes to build, deploy and scale distributed SQL databases on the cloud and Kubernetes.

Cloud-Native Data Infrastructure Experts from Amazon Aurora, FoundationDB, Microsoft Azure Citus, and More to Speak at Inaugural Event

“As infrastructure is changing from ‘cloud hosted’ to ‘cloud native’, the SQL/relational database market is rapidly changing to meet the demands imposed by the new cloud native infrastructure layer,” said Kannan Muthukkaruppan, CEO and co-founder of YugaByte. “The rise of globally distributed SQL is easily the most revolutionary change to SQL since ACID transactions were introduced in the 1980s. Now is the right time for an event dedicated to the movement.”

“The Postgres Community continues to be an inclusive opportunity for the ecosystem, and we are excited to have partnered with YugaByte to present a Distributed SQL summit at this year’s Postgres Conference Silicon Valley,” said Joshua Drake, Co-Chair of Postgres Conference and Founder of United States PostgreSQL. “With renewed interest in Postgres continuing to grow and having both practitioners and vendors collaborate on building, deploying and scaling PostgreSQL-based distributed systems in the cloud should make for an incredible opportunity to learn, network and build.”

As interest in geo-distributed variants of SQL continues to accelerate, enterprises turn to distributed databases to gain the scaling capabilities of NoSQL, combined with the strong consistency, ACID transactions and support for the SQL syntax provided by monolithic SQL systems like Oracle. Expert speakers at the Summit will dive deep into the use cases, best practices and next steps for successfully implementing distributed SQL as a key part of an enterprise cloud and Oracle migration strategy.

“It’s super interesting to see different database companies and cloud providers build on top of PostgreSQL,” said Matt Asay, columnist and Head of Developer Ecosystem at Adobe. “Extending PostgreSQL in clever, critical ways has made it more relevant than ever for use cases requiring global scale. This should be especially exciting for companies looking to migrate off of Oracle in their journey to the cloud.”

“True digital transformation is about decomposing applications and adopting microservices architectures. It also means migrating off monolithic databases in favor of cloud-native data infrastructure,” said James Watters SVP Products at Pivotal and the keynote speaker at the Distributed SQL Summit. “Java, which is still the language of choice for the modern enterprise, Spring and distributed SQL databases, are proving to be critical technologies for enabling these journeys.”
