Visual Semiconductor, a Fremont, California display developer, and its commercialization partner INCERGO will show GF3D, a glasses-free 3D display technology, at CES 2027. They plan demonstrations across six product categories: a television, a rolling display called FreeRange, a monitor, a laptop, a tablet and a smartphone.
What GF3D does
GF3D uses what the company calls a plenoptic display, which sends different images in different directions so each eye sees a slightly different view. Visual Semiconductor says it works for several viewers at once across a wide viewing zone, without glasses, goggles or eye-tracking cameras. That last point is the main claim. Most glasses-free 3D screens shown in recent years track one viewer’s eyes and only work for that person.
The second piece is software. An AI engine converts supported 2D content into 3D in real time and improves native 3D content. Without that, a 3D screen has almost nothing to show, which is what killed 3D televisions last time.
Why it’s worth a booth visit
The companies are pitching GF3D as the biggest change in viewing since color TV. That’s a marketing line and it should be tested on the show floor, not taken on trust. The useful questions are simple. How wide is the viewing zone really. What happens to brightness and resolution in 3D mode. How good does live 2D-to-3D conversion look on ordinary content.
Showing it in six device types at once is ambitious for a small company. It suggests they’re looking for manufacturing partners rather than selling a finished product. Manufacturers, technology partners and press can book demonstrations through Visual Semiconductor ahead of the show.
INCERGO is listed on the Vienna MTF under the ticker ICG.
