Charging Interface Initiative e.V. (CharIN e.V.) 1st North America Conference, 19 March 2018, Fremont Marriott Hotel, Silicon Valley, Fremont, California

March 20, 2018 By admin

IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, and the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA), today announced its participation at the upcoming Charging Interface Initiative e.V. (CharIN e.V.) 1st North America Conference held 19 March 2018 at the Fremont Marriott Hotel Silicon Valley in Fremont, California. By communicating its key initiatives in this domain area, sharing thought-leadership and identifying opportunities for greater industry collaboration, IEEE-SA continues to demonstrate commitment to support industry’s goals relative to the Mobility ecosystem.

“The growth of electrical vehicles and the associated demands on charging infrastructure represents a significant portion of a broader Mobility picture,” said Konstantinos Karachalios, managing director, IEEE-SA. “IEEE-SA is committed to driving innovation across the entire digital economy through stakeholder engagement and inclusiveness, and our cooperation with CharIN e.V. fully supports our objectives as they relate to Mobility.”

IEEE-SA members will be participating and sharing insights and experiences during the conferences’ three panel discussions, entitled:

Driving the EV Revolution with Combined Charging System (CCS) – A worldwide game changer
Setting a Global Standard – Enabling e-Mobility with CCS
Startups and Investors – Driving CCS based e-Mobility through disruptive innovation
The partnering of CharIN e.V. and IEEE-SA on the event provides both communities further ability to advance innovation in the space, and possibly create joint standards and market-relevant certification programs. Through the IEEE Conformity Assessment program (ICAP), Industry has the ability to create test cases, run interoperability plugfests, as well as comprehensive certification programs. In this manner, ICAP develops and implements programs that couple standards development activities with conformity assessment activities, helping to accelerate market adoption while reducing implementation costs.

The conference is co-sponsored by the IEEE-SA, and will cooperate with CharIN e.V. on advancing EV charging and associated e-Mobility technologies, opening the door for joint standardization efforts and collaborative work through the IEEE Conformity Assessment Program (ICAP).

The Charging Interface Initiative e.V. was founded to accelerate the deployment of the Combined Charging System (CCS) based infrastructure and enable multi-vendor interoperability. CCS unifies AC and DC charging and offers smart and high power quick charging. Members of The Charging Interface Initiative e.V. represent all segments of the ecosystem, including leading automotive OEMs, charger manufacturers, and technology and service providers.

Beyond initiatives in EV charging, the IEEE-SA portfolio includes an industry incubating initiative focused on the future of automotive technologies across the spectrum of communications, intelligence and electric vehicle; a certification initiative focused on the Rapid Charging of EVs and Approves Standard Revision on Dynamic DC Charging; artificial intelligence & ethics related work pertaining to mobility; and a host of standards initiatives, as well as a leading annual event focused on automotive technologies coupled with mobility workshops held around the world.

The annual Ethernet & IP @ Automotive Technology Day event will take place 9-10 October 2018 in London, England, with a focus on the next level challenges in Automated Driving, Electrification, and Vehicular Connectivity.
