True North 2019, June 19-20, 2019, Lot42, Kitchener, ON

January 24, 2019 By admin

Tim Berners-Lee, Kara Swisher and Thomas Friedman Coming to True North 2019 in June

ommunitech is pleased to announce three new keynote speakers for its second-annual True North conference, happening June 19-20, 2019 at Lot42, including web pioneer Tim Berners-Lee, Kara Swisher, Executive Editor of Recode, and Thomas Friedman, Pulitzer Prize winning writer and global affairs analyst.

Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989 while working as a software engineer at CERN, the large particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. There, he specified the three fundamental technologies that remain the foundation of today’s Web: HTML, URL and HTTP. He also wrote the first Web page editor/browser and the first Web server. Not content to leave his creation to fate, Tim announced in 2007 the formation of the World Wide Web Foundation, confirming his commitment to ensuring a Web open, free and accessible to all.

Swisher is the Co-founder and Executive Editor of Recode. She’s also a contributor to the New York Times and holds the title as Silicon Valley’s most feared and well-liked journalist. She’ll share her insights on the evolving tech world at True North 2019.

Friedman is a provocative writer and winner of three Pulitzer Prizes. He’s covered stories from around the globe for The New York Times since 1981. His latest book, Thank You For Being Late provides an expansive, yet simple analysis of the stresses and challenges of a world transformed by technology, globalization and climate change.

Focused around hard conversations about how tech impacts the ways we live, work and play, True North will bring together policy makers, academia, and industry leaders to reconsider tech’s purpose, to imagine and re-imagine technology’s impact on our work and lives, and to examine the values that guide innovation.

Ticket pricing for True North 2019 increases February 1, 2019. For speaker updates, ticket sales, event information please visit www.truenorthwaterloo.com.
